South Jordan is a beautiful family oriented community, which has struggled to build a successful tax base of thriving local restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues for growing families. With the new construction at North Shore, and around the Ballpark we have an opportunity to attract more vibrant businesses, and keep South Jordan tax dollars in our community. But, we cannot expand in these areas while allowing projects like the District to become abandoned and derelict. We need an intentional focus on attracting, supporting, and retaining the family owned businesses that give a community it's character.
Areas of Focus:
SoJo Works Initiative: Local hiring efforts to help pair small businesses with local workers to bypass the burdensome. expensive, and often ineffective hiring apps - let's get back to basics and get SoJo working together.
SoJo Builds Initiative: As new businesses consider South Jordan their home, the City Council must be nimble. discerning, and innovative in the way we attract, permit, and hold local businesses accountable to our community.
SoJo Soars Initiative: Local businesses are the lifeblood of a community, and they bring character and personality to the dining and recreation scene. As we watch many of the chain restaurants that once dotter our streets relocate to shopping centers in Riverton and Herriman, we need to put revitalizing the South Jordan small business community on project status, exploring why, how, and what is needed to attract (and retain) new entrepreneurs entering the South Jordan business economy.
But, while all of these are ideas that I believe could benefit our community. I want to hear from you! What do you see as a priority to attract, retain, and support local businesses in our community. What barriers, opportunities, or obstacles are currently in the way of our local entrepreneurs, and how do we balance that with the unique character of our neighborhoods?
