About Me
Hello! Thanks for stopping by. I'm Stacy Hughes, and I want to be your City Council Representative. I was born and raised in Utah. And, I LOVE it here.
I grew up in Sandy, graduated from Alta High School, and earned a degree is Sociology and Criminology at the University of Utah. As you can see, I've lived most of my life in the Salt Lake valley. I moved to Daybreak's Eastlake Village in 2007, with my husband, and two young boys -- who have since grown into grown men.
During that time, I've seen a lot of growth in South Jordan, and all the changes that came with it -- good and bad. I've seen exciting new shopping districts, recreation areas, and neighborhoods. But I've also seen shops struggle to keep their doors open, parks with overflowing garbage cans, and neighborhoods filled with empty lots, and construction debris.
I am the Business Development Director for one of the world's largest wedding dress manufacturers, where I spend my days coaching small businesses from all over the world on user expectations and long-term strategy. In other words, I help small businesses grow by focusing on their customers. I want to bring that customer-focused perspective to the South Jordan City Council, to ensure that as we grow, we maintain the quality of life that brought us all here in the first place.
We have a lot to do: reinvigorate The District, improve our open spaces and manage the growth that is inevitable in our community -- just to name a few. I will bring to these challenges the same skills that I use in my day job -- long-term thinking, creative problem-solving, and a sharp focus on sustainable and scalable growth.
I have visited world-class cities on six continents, and I believe that South Jordan can be a world-class community, with all we have to offer. You may see me shopping at Harmon's, dining out at Tio's, or taking my dog, Cleopatra, on a walk around the lake. If you do, please stop and say hello, and let me know what you are concerned about. Why I'm Running
If you know me (in person, or online) you know that I am a woman who sees the glass as half full, but I am also capable of noticing if someone else's glass is empty. As I watch our community grow, and listened to the delight, the frustration, and even the heartbreak that the members of our neighborhood have experienced, I can't help but recognize that we could do more. And, instead of simply talking the talk, I feel that now is the time to walk the walk. I want to serve my neighbors and community through collaboration, consultation, and communication with an open ear, an open door (or inbox), and an open heart. And, I hope you'll join me.
